LeBron James enters his 21st season with the Los Angeles Lakers, and at 38 years old, he’s ready to pass the torch of leadership to Anthony Davis. Get the latest news and rumors about the Lakers here.

“He is the face of this franchise,” James emphatically stated during the Lakers’ Media Day. “Just look at all the retired jerseys in this franchise, and you’ll instantly know that AD is one of them.”

Davis signed a contract extension over the summer, securing his presence with the Lakers until 2028, with a whopping $177 million over the next three years. However, when asked about James’ remarks, Davis humbly responded, “The team belongs to the Lakers, and I’m just a part of it.”

“As the second-oldest player on this team now, the younger guys look up to me,” explained the 30-year-old. “So, I have a responsibility to be a leader alongside Bron and help motivate and guide these young players.” Davis also shared his personal goal of playing all 82 games in the upcoming season.

In the summer, LeBron James’ son, Bronny, suffered a cardiac arrest, but according to LeBron, the soon-to-be 19-year-old is doing better. Bronny even aims to return to play for his college, USC, in the upcoming season.

“He’s doing really well,” LeBron reassured. “It was definitely tough to see what he’s been through these past few months. I can’t even imagine what it felt like for him. But it’s great to see him on the mend.”

USC coach Andy Enfield had already revealed in August that Bronny was making progress and attending some classes at the university.

LeBron James is serious about representing the Lakers at 39 years old and competing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. “I’m very interested,” LeBron said, but added, “First and foremost, I’m focused on the Lakers. We have a long season ahead of us.”

With Kevin Durant and Bam Adebayo already committing, and a list of other stars like Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Jaylen Brown, DeMar DeRozan, Donovan Mitchell, Khris Middleton, Julius Randle, Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon, Fred VanVleet, Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, and Brook Lopez expressing interest, it’s shaping up to be an exciting Olympic journey.
