Trump struggles to reach last eight, will play Sarnkham

World No. 3 Judd Trump advanced to the last eight of the 2023 Northern Ireland Open with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Ian Burns.

In the first set, Trump capitalized on an error by Burns to take a 1-0 lead. In the second set, Trump again capitalized on a Burns error to extend his lead to 2-0.

In the third set, the two exchanged errors and Trump won 52-41 to extend his lead to 3-0. In the fourth set, Burns finally found some form and came back to tie the set at 65-59.

In the fifth set, Trump made consecutive errors while leading, and Burns capitalized to even the score at 64-50. In the sixth game, Trump hit a 36 to regain the lead. In the seventh game, Burns came from behind and made consecutive errors, which Trump capitalized on to win 71-25 and advance to the last eight with a final score of 4-2.

Trump will face Sahnkam in the last eight. Saanenkham is in good form at the Northern Ireland Open after knocking out Stephen Maguire 4-0.

In other matches, Chris Wakeling knocked out Sean Murphy 4-2 to reach the last eight, Sijun Yuan knocked out Stan Moody 4-2 to reach the last eight, Joe Perry narrowly beat Hussein Wafi 4-3 to reach the last eight, and Richie Walden knocked out Zihao Xin 4-1 to reach the last eight.
